My first ever publication, whose intended title is Close to the edge: Exploring the global hip hop diaspora. I wrote this for a year 12 VCE subject called Extended Investigation, which asks students to write a 4000 word research paper on a topic of their choosing. At the time I must've been into hip hop, as I wrote about the use of hip hop music to index particular (black) identities for two South Sudanese musicians living in Melbourne. Though it's a very rough piece of work (I was 17), I still think it says something interesting about the global social meaning of hip hop music performance, at least from the performer's perspective.
